Ava and her people have been exiled to the planet Poseidon for reasons she can’t fathom. Upon meeting a boy from a different sector, her life turns into a beautiful chaos.  About the Author

Carlyle is an South African award wining author, with a flair for mixing genres and adding loads of drama to every story she creates. For now she is happy to take over the world and convert non Sci-fi believers.

Her goal as an author is to touch people’s lives, and help others love their differences and one another by delivering strong messages of faith, love and hope within each world she writes about.

“I love to swim, fight for the trees, and am a food lover who is driven by my passion for life. I dream that one day my stories will change the lives of countless teenagers and have them obsess over the world literacy can offer them instead of worrying about fitting in. Never sacrifice who you are, its in the dark times that the light comes to life.”

Carlyle used writing as a healing tool and that is why she started her very own writers support event – SAIR bookfestival. http://sairbookfestival.weebly.com/ – “To be a helping hand for those who strive to become full times writers, editors, bloggers, readers and cover artists – its a crazy world out there you dont have to go it alone!”

 EXCERPT
I smiled to myself―breaking rules was part of who I had become; I would try anything just to feel alive, to feel free from a dying planet―a dying race. The water beneath me shimmered, while the mountain appeared pale green in the dim light. I imagined for a moment that I was stuck in a beautiful painting.

Once more, I glanced at Sam, her fiery locks still resting lightly across her face. With her eyes shut and her long, dark, thick lashes sweeping over the top of her rosy cheeks, she looked just like a doll. Her coat was tucked tightly into the nape of her neck to ward off the cold, and a faint smile started curling up at the edges of her mouth. Not a care in the world, I thought to myself as I looked thoughtfully at Sam snuggled in silent reverie.

As I turned my gaze back to the distant horizon where nightfall was quickly creeping toward us from over Mount Inja, a shimmer of an early star set against the amethyst sky caught my eye―so silver, so sparkling, so high and so serene that I could only dream of ever reaching it. I closed my eyes tight, fighting the pang in my chest, and I wished for that star to fall down on me, to grant me my wish of changing my life forever. I wished it would close the emptiness within my chest and fill it with the kind of peace that would make me the person I was meant to be, not the girl I was. The girl who was constantly poked fun at, never once left alone to just be herself; the girl who envied everyone else, and the girl with the huge inheritance that meant nothing to her. I felt belittled every day because of it. I looked harder into the glimmer of the star and wished to be envied, just once.

Interview

The writers voice

Hello Carlyle and welcome to The Writers Voice.

Are the traits of anyone close to you apparent in your characters?

Ummm I am not a liberty to say – this might or might not land me in the hot seat.

Who do you feel is your most unique character?

Its so difficult to answer that as I am very emotionally attached to most my characters, but Id have to say Maya, the girl who was adopted by the Minoans and has lived among their people, she is not of their race, so the the unique combination is quite delightful and very colorful indeed.

If you could have any extraordinary gift or super power what would it be and why?

Anyone who has read The Broken Destiny would know a mind-shifter is a unique thing, a tricky and dangerous power to have, as this ability solely relies on your mental state. But boy your abilities are infinite, not limited at all.

What would you like for readers to take away from your novel/novels?

So much. A sense of self- worth, of self- love, belief in one self and others. To always have faith even if the way you were brought up was to not believe in the un- seeable. That no one defines you, your destiny is of your own making and that choices have consequences. People make mistakes, even heroes and that is the path of growth.

What do you feel is your biggest writerly fault and how do you deal with it?

My inability to be patient. How do I deal with it? I am still learning, but if anything this entire industry is about patience (especially in the editing stage) from the first draft till way after launch day.

Worldbuilding is such an important part of writing. What would your words of encouragement for aspiring authors be when it comes to developing their own worlds?

Just let go, be yourself. Whatever comes in your mind, try it. You will never know till you have tried it right?

Which came first for you–the characters, the idea for the setting, or the plot?

The setting, then the characters, then the plot, more characters, more settings, more plot…

Is there anything you’d like to go back one year and tell yourself?

If you think you researched this properly – think again, ask for other’s help. Most importantly your never done editing!

When you were growing up, what did you want to be?

I wanted to be in a story-world. J

Go and support this wonderful South African author.

Mr. Sandman, send me a dream, ta da da da…..Seventeen year old Chasity Blake knows the Sandman is just a silly children’s story parents tell their children to get them to sleep. At least she thought it was, until the day a mysterious, light golden sand appeared in her hands during a high school prank that went horribly wrong. A sand that has the power to send anyone it touches into a deep, sound sleep.

Fearing she had lost her mind, Chasity soon discovers the shocking truth of her heritage- she is a Dream Caster. Chasity was never supposed to be raised on the Domain, or what humans call Earth and she is determined to return to her true birth place, Revera – the world of Dreams.

However, in Revera there is no balance between good, the Light Casters, and darkness, the Shadow Casters, and Chasity is caught square in the middle. She soon learns that there is no place for anyone containing both the light and the darkness within them, and the shocking truth that if anyone in Revera ever discovered her shadow self, Chasity would be thrown into the Oblivion – the world of Nightmares.

Dreams are always more than they seem, and this time Chasity is going to discover just how different they can be.

Frostbite except

Excerpt One: I WAS BACK INSIDE that cave, the one where Lucian lost his life. I looked around but I knew he wasn’t going to come for me, he was dead. Then what the hell am I still doing here, staring at a psycho who claims to be my dragon?

“You really thought that I was your dragon, Elena? Seriously?” He laughed that sadistic laugh that made my insides twist and turn in all directions.

“Get away from me you freak,” I spat.

His hand connected hard against my cheek, it burned and my ears rang for a couple of seconds.

“I’m not a freak, I’m a patriot.”

“Patriot?” I laughed as loud as I could. “You are a murderer!”

Another strike. The Elementals clucked like crazy, they could feel the danger all around them and must have felt helpless. It was beginning to drive me insane.

“Stop it you mongrels, or I’ll skin you alive,” Paul yelled and for some reason they listened. He looked back down at me again. The point of his knife was close to my throat. “It’s funny how everyone around you knows who you are, Elena, except you.”

“What are you talking about?”

He laughed again. “I guess they like to play mind games with you, like to keep you in the dark.” His eyes met mine. “Some friends you have.”

“Stop that, you know nothing about my friends, or what friendship is.”

“Why? Because they all end up betraying you at the end of the day. Take it from me; it’s better to live in the dark. You can do whatever you want, be whatever you want. Your friends don’t give a shit about you, and neither does your dragon.”

“You are not my dragon,” I yelled again.

“Oh, I know that, and for some sick, twisted reason your true dragon wasn’t bothered one bit that I claimed you as my rider.”

“You are lying.”

“Am I?” He looked around. “Then where is your dragon, Elena? Why isn’t it here?” The Elementals’ clucking noises drowned the rest of Paul’s words. I could see his lips moving, but their sounds of pure panic drilled through my brain, making it impossible to hear what he had to say. It grew louder and louder and then a cannon shot rang through their cries.

I jumped up in bed, soaked with sweat. It was like, the gazillionth time I’d had that dream. I could still hear their clucking and it made me feel like I was going crazy, but still, no tears came. My heart felt as if it was bouncing inside my ears. No matter how many times I had the same dream, I could never hear Paul’s last words as the Elemental sounds kept interrupting him. But there was one thing that I knew was a lie, I didn’t own a dragon. I was a dragon, and that was one piece of information I still struggled to deal with.

Thank you all much, Book 1 -3 of the Dragonian Series is available at all online leading stores. And there is a Novelette 1.5 called Venom that should be read between Firebolt and Thunderlight. It was scenes that was Deleted from Thunderlight but we want to keep it so my editor suggest doing a 1.5 Novelette.
